A menu using the freshest local produce… The Westcountry is an area where high quality local produce is in abundance. Our ideal location, in Churston Ferrers, Brixham on the South Devon coastline means that our superb restaurant menu is always based on the very best and freshest local produce from Devon. Our Head Chef Will Hext takes great pride in sourcing local producers and creating freshly prepared restaurant dishes for you to enjoy. Please note that all items are subject to availability and that our menus will change to bring you the best of the seasons. We try to always have a selection of interesting dishes available and have recently changed from a monthly format to a daily one for our specials thus we can only have an example specials menu available on the website, please call to either discuss or possibly request on of your favourites for your visit.

The best local suppliers…
Most of our fish comes from local supplier, Kingfisher, with the Haddock, Cod or Hake for our Fish & Chips coming from Marine Stewardship Council (MCS) approved fishing grounds in Norway, where it is line caught. Our mussels are also MCS certified and come fresh from the River Exe. Our Beef, Lamb and Pork is all supplied from butchers here in Devon, who source most of their meat from Westcountry farms. Our free-range eggs are from Marldon in South Devon. The delicious Yarde Farm ice creams we serve come from a family owned business in Langage, near Plymouth. Our Devon Roast Fairtrade coffee is freshly roasted for us by the Costa Rica Coffee Company in Torquay.
A choice selection of wines and beverages…
We have a wide range of drinks from real ales to fine wines, and all chosen with care from the best brewers and wine merchants… Our range of soft drinks includes Luscombes juices from Buckfastleigh, Devon, Frobisher’s Juices from Exeter, our wines are from Regency Wines of Exeter and Chris Piper Wines of Ottery St. Mary, and Real Ale choices from Bays the local Brewer. Even the beer in our famous Steak & Ale pies is brewed by Bays and we use it in the batter on our Fish & Chips and our Onion Rings! That’s Pete who owns the brewery pulling a pint at our Bar – my wife says “he could’ve shaved”!! Let us serve you with our beautifully slow-roasted Beef from South Devon farms that are known to us, with tall Yorkshire Puddings, or Devon Loin of Pork and Crispy Crackling, or delicious Devon Chicken– all freshly cooked and accompanied by roast potatoes and fresh vegetables. Food Hygiene Rating
We aim for the highest standards throughout the Weary Ploughman Inn and are pleased to report that we have the highest possible grading from the Food Standards Agency for our food hygiene.
Allergens & Intolerances
All our staff are trained to a high level. Our chef’s are all extremely aware of this subject in all it’s intricacies. We invest a substantial sum in regular external and independent audits of all our food safety practises which are regularly carried out on a surprise basis (to us) to ensure we are constantly on our toes. This is why we maintain our precious 5* rating. Additionally we run a constantly updated website, below, to allow anyone to view our allergen information and this information is also available to veue onsite in both electronic and hard copy versions.
